This is the promised harbour update. The West Harbour is currently being dredged and we hope this will be completed by early May. The Edinburgh Marina has not dredged the pontoon this winter and it is likely this will cause some silting up during the year restricting all- tide access for deeper draft vessels. I enlcose a picture of the pontoon and the 2005 Marina information.

entwickelte sich am Fuß des Schlossfelsens um die im 6. Jahrhundert n. Chr. gebaute Burg. Im 11. Jahrhundert residierte hier Malcolm III., König von Schottland. König Robert Bruce gewährte Edinburgh 1329 eine Verfassungsurkunde. 1437 löste die Stadt Perth als schottische Hauptstadt ab, nachdem Jakob I. von Schottland dort ermordet worden war.

Mit dem Act of Union mit England (1707) wurde das schottische Parlament aufgelöst. Edinburghs Ausdehnung über seine mittelalterlichen Grenzen hinweg wurde 1767 vom Stadtrat beschlossen.

Während des 18. und 19. Jahrhunderts florierte das kulturelle Leben in der Stadt. Sie war u. a. das Zuhause der Autoren Robert Burns, James Boswell und Sir Walter Scott sowie der Philosophen Adam Smith und David Hume. Die UNESCO erklärte Edinburgh 1995 zum Weltkulturerbe. Bei einem Großbrand wurden Anfang Dezember 2002 Teile der Altstadt zerstört.
